The Cardboard Experience

Virtual reality has come a long way and is starting to make its way into our classrooms. Google Cardboard is a fun and affordable way to get you and your students immersed in an endless virtual world, from riding roller coasters, to visiting the depths of the sea, to hiking Machu Picchu. And it doesn’t stop there. Smartphone apps and 360\u00ba cameras allow students to create their own virtual worlds that can be shared and enjoyed by others. Come explore the core components of Google Cardboard, take a trip or two to a far off (virtual) land, and begin brainstorming the potential of VR in your classroom.

Top Notch Google Apps: Digital Tools to Showcase Student Learning

With so many Google apps available, the variety of apps teachers can use in their classroom can be overwhelming. There are apps for mind mapping, grading work, presenting content, composing documents, creating artwork, playing instruments, managing classes, and so much more! This presentation will first provide teachers a framework for classifying apps as a tool for providing students with access to content, creating a digital learning artifact, or practicing a foundational skill. To support attendees, the presenter will demonstrate apps that can be accessed from Google Drive, which align to these different classifications, and explain how these apps could be used in the classroom.

GAFE Analytics
Hapara offers a preview of analytics which will release later in October: analytics gives insight into student growth in 21 Century skills such as collaboration and communications/feedback back to a district’s initial implementation of Google Apps for Education. Analytics also illuminates which policies (e.g., Chromebook deployment or PD sessions) influence student progress. These analytics do not require that a district uses the Hapara Dashboard suite.
